Berlin's shadow

Voices of decolonisation
Berlin’s Shadow is a project founded by Kabumbayi Joh. This initiative explores the lasting consequences Africa faces today from the Berlin Conference of 1884, when European powers divided the continent without consulting its people. Through music, dialogue, and creative practices, the project addresses the cultural, social, and political legacies of colonialism while creating a space for reflection, expression, and reconnection with African identities.
The Berlin’s Shadow Workshop is a participatory experience that allows students, young people, and cultural enthusiasts to examine how colonial borders reshaped Africa, disrupted cultural identities, and influenced contemporary conflicts. Participants engage in discussions, creative exercises, and interactive activities to explore migration, belonging, cultural loss, and resilience, while imagining ways to reclaim and celebrate African heritage today.
